Guitar hero II for Xbox 360

Last year a lady I work with told me about this thing her husband bought at Future shop. He snuck it inside the house, didn't tell her what it was, and an hour later she heard the TV in the basement den proclaim very loudly that her husband "ROCKED!". She went downstairs and there he was, doing the Pete Townsend windmill with a little PS2 plastic guitar around his neck with 5 colorful buttons. It was the Guitar Hero rhythm game for the PS2!

I thought it sounded ridiculous! Heck, if you can do the real thing with a real guitar why would you bother? Duh! Still I was curious. I checked out the website. Man.. All the designers are gamers and guitar players. It has a whammy bar! It looks like a flying V. THAT'S COOL!!!!! Mildly intrigued I saw that it was a PS2 only game, problem solved. I'm an XBOX-only kinda guy.

Fast forward to today where they have released Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I had to buy it. I went to Best Buy after checking the website to make sure it was in stock. I had to ask two sales droids to actually do their jobs instead of just standing there producing carbon dioxide:

"I dunno man, I think we're sold out...."
"Can you check?"
Clicks on computer
"Oh. we have 34 left - gee I just told the last guy we were sold out, hee hee, oh well, they must be in the back.. "

When I was leaving 3 of the 4 people in line to show their receipts to the yellow shirted Best Buy guy who guards the door had Guitar Hero II boxes! One guy and his girlfriend were parked right beside me. I did that stupid Tonni Iommi devil horn sign and said:

"Rock on Dude!"
and the other guy said "You know it!" and his girlfriend just rolled her eyes(they don't get it).

So I ran home, helped my kid with her homework and then plugged in the little plastic Gibson explorer with a USB extender, fitted the strap and commenced rockin! That's one drag. Microsoft doesn't share it's X360 wireless protocol with anyone so the guitar has a cable. I read on the website that some interviewer asked the lead designer why they made it with a cable and the guy said "We tried cutting the cable between the guitar and the Xbox360 but you know what? it just didn't work after!"

What you do in the game is follow the on-screen tape ticker and when you see the same colored buttons as you have on the neck, you fret it and hit the strum button. It's easy to figure out but hard to master, and it's very addictive. My 6 year old loves it! The guitar is small and comfy and you find yourself bopping as you play to keep time. Pretty ridiculous but effective as long as no one can see you. I can understand how someone who does not actually know how to play guitar would get into this sim as if they actually were producing the cool riffs and licks you hear when you hit the button combos just right. It even has some strange thing that happens when you tilt the guitar upright. It can sense the change in the guitar's posture and you get extra points if you do it in certain places.

My wife thinks I'm a loser though(ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!! it even has YYZ! Woohoo!)

I want nuggas audio

Added audio to the previous post so you could see what I mean.

I want Nuggas!

My wife took the kids to the SCI and Tech museum last Friday, it being a PD day and all. Right outside the museum, next to that big Titan rocket ship, is a McDonalds. A McDonalds with a playpark(I hope everyone has had a chance to watch SuperSize Me). So they go through the drive-through.
My youngest (2 and a half) is going through a stage where she likes to yell words she knows, very loud. Acually I should clarify that, words she thinks she knows. One of these wods is a variation of the McDonald's delicacy the "McNugget". She McThinks she McKnows it but she McSays it wrong.
When they got to the drivethrough box that you scream your order through and my wife asks her what she wants she yells "NUGGAS!".... She actually means "Nuggets" as in Chicken McNuggets. But she doesn't say that - she screams "NUGGAS!" again. It's a nice day outside and the windows are down and there are some young black teenagers hanging around in the parking lot. They are not impressed.

My wife tries to correct her .
"No you mean Nuuuggeeets.."
"NO! NUUGGAAS!!!!

Zoom! Thanks for the order, Outta there! We'll work on the pronunciation later!

Here's an audio snippet.

P.S.

No we're not Klansmen. This is Canada goddammit! I can't bring myself to even say the N-word. By the way checkout this blog I found looking for a pic of a McNugget! It's called the Food Pornographer.

My Ebay account got hacked!

It's been a crummy month for electronic vandalism. I got an email from ebay today, about an A26 TKO NOTICE saying that they restored my account to a previous date because it was accessed by unauthorized persons. Basically I had a lame-o password for Ebay and the bastards brute-forced it. Fortunately I have a secure password for my paypal and a different secure password for the email account my ebay profile uses. So they can't do too much monetarily. In fact, no damage was done. They appear to have changed my Ebay password and associated email account and then put a bunch of shite up for sale under my userid just so they can keep the money and not send anything leaving my userid holding the bag so to speak. Pretty nice of Ebay to catch this. It was unusual activity for my account.

To get back in I had to wait 20 minutes in an electronic queue for their live web chat help and some guy named Alex got me up and running again after a small question and answer.

People that do this sort of thing need to be reminded that a real world exists outside of the electronic one they're trying to rip people off in. Will someone please give me a name, address and a baseball bat?

Grrrr!

Note to self, it's not just your money-site and email passwords that have to be secure. I'm glad I keep them all seperate. Good time to change them all (again).

Wow, Paypal does what it says!

So the case of that thing I bought on eBay a few weeks back which the guy never sent has been resolved. Paypal just gave me a refund. I think it came out of the guy's Paypal account or cred card attached to the account so it went smooth. I've no idea what happens when the guy clears out his account first. As soon as a grievance is filed they freeze funds so it's a good practice in that regard.

I'm glad. Paypal is like a necessary evil sometimes but it's nice to know it does what it says it does when things go wrong.

Kidnapping cache gnomes

Yesterday I attended a Geocaching get together and we got to talking about the weird Ottawa thing with geocaches and garden gnomes. A lot of these geocachers are new and didn't hear about some of the gnome kidnappings that took place back in the early caching days in 2002. Basically I kidnapped Tick and Nammie's Gnome Forester (actually it was Bigfoot who kidnapped him, it was just my idea) and took him to work, played hockey with him, took him in the hot tub, etc. He had a good time. I put him to work shovelling the snow off my satellite dish, fixing my servers etc.. He stayed with my troll collection while he was away from his cache.
He was well-fed and had few complaints. On the last day he got to watch a UFC pay per view, as well as a midnight screening of a James Bond movie. A good time had by all.

Here are the origional geocaching logs of the first kidnapping with photos.

Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4

Then in 2003, I kidnapped their other gnome, Soloman, and he got to go to Cuba! Gnomes gone wild! A good time had by all!

Childhood fun with gum remover

When I was a teenager, I got a job at a local Cineplex Odeon theatre and they had this wonderful stuff called gum remover. It came in a can and it was like poor man's liquid nitrogen. You'd see gum squished into the carpet and you'd spray it with this stuff, freezing the gum and then you could dislodge it with one kick of your shoe. It had other uses. Freezing houseflies in mid air in order to capture and domesticate them.
What you did was, chase the pesky fly down with the gum remover, freeze him in mid flight, pick him up off the floor and tie a bit of thread around his abdomen. It took a few times (and flies) to get it right. The most common mistake is cutting the fly in half when you tighten the knot. I prefer a rapalla knot for this type of work. You also can't use too much thread or it causes a payload problem and Mr fly can't get air born. When you have the length just right you end up with a fly on a 6 inch thread leash. You can tie it around his head but watch out for accidental decapitations. I seem to recall having the thread trail the underside of the fly as being workable. You also have to watch the damned legs (they always get in the way!)

A leashed fly lasted about a day. I don't know what flies eat and it may have starved to death. I wasn't about to go outside and find dog droppings or whatever they are partial too.

All this for $4.15 an hour! Woohoo!

300 DVDSCR leaked

That has got to be a record. A DVD quality version on the net on March 21st. Good thing it's grossed over 100 mil in theatres. I'm glad I saw it on the big screen though, this is the type of film worth spending your $12.50 on (Imax price).

Ebay emailed to say Sonic's not coming....

It was bound to happen, I buy enough stuff off of there.. I won an auction last week for a stuffed toy for my Kid. Sonic the Hedgehog! Woohoo! My 6 year old plays the video game and likes the TV show so I thought it would be neat to track down a stuffed toy for her. I found one on Ebay and got it for $7 (plus $10 shipping from the good old USA ouch!), ok, $17, BUT you can't get them easy and I don't have time to scour the Salvation Army stores.

I paid for it right away with PayPal and the next day I got a nice email from Ebay that they have terminated the seller's auctioning privileges.. That is usually a sign that the seller is not sending out the stuff he's posted just in some cases is just keeping people's money for fun.

So with a relatively inexpensive item I get to find out if Paypal recompensation works at all. I have heard it is NOT buyer friendly and it's like pulling teeth to get your money back after someone has decided to just keep it. I filed a claim and escalated it right away. We'll see what happens. Funny thing is, I have the guy's real name, address, and even an alternative shipping address with some other person's name. His girlfriend maybe? What can I do with that I wonder?

I always check feedback and this guy's was 100% but had relatively few transactions. The day after I paid him, he had one bad feedback and then Ebay closed his account. Doh!

And since I had told my daughter what I had ordered, I had to order ANOTHER one on Ebay to replace the one that ain't coming(actually it was a package of 4 of them, a bit better deal). This new guy shipped it an hour after I paid. Guy's like that are what Ebay's all about. I need to stick with people who have 1000+ transactions.

300 on Imax

I caught the Imax version of 300 last week. It's the best film I've seen in ages. I'm a big fan of Frank Miller's stuff ever since I came across it in the late 80's with his Dark Night Returns Batman stuff. He really has a way with capturing mood with his unique animation style.
Like they did with Sin City, this new director (who had previously helmed a pretty good zombie film) stayed pretty faithful to the comic panels. There is much blood and gore, nasty politics and 300 buff guys running around in speedos impaling persians. And the King's scottish accent, however unspartan it may be, works for me!(grin). A depicted Warrior society that inspects newborn babies and tosses them off cliffs if they don't appear normal is pretty out there.

I don't know if it was the Imax experience that made it better, I'll have to go see it again on a normal screen to be sure.

Check it out!

Movie Release tags explained

Speaking of movies leaked as R5's TS's TC's. If you've ever been confused over which is which, here is an order of quality (with links to definitions off the scene website).

R1/2 retail DVD Rip Ripped right off the commercial DVD
DVDSCR Ripped off those vid store or academy award screeners. Not a lot of clean up done on these but the quality is great
R5 Retail Ditto like above, rushed out the door to combat the Russian movie pirates
Telecine Copied vid and audio digitally right off the reel. Pretty rare.
Telesync Video cam in projection booth with an audio feed off the projector
Cam Video cam in the audience with crappy sound from on board mic, people in the audience getting up in front of the cam, coughing, audience laughter, etc.. These suck...

Releaselog.net

Tripper turned me onto this site quite awhile ago. If you are into bitorrenting free public domain documentaries on dog shows or other equally inoffensive stuff, or any 'other' things that may be floating around out on the Internet, then this is the site for you. It's a team of people that quite usefully review 'scene' releases, films, apps, games, TV shows etc.. that get leaked to the Internet by various means.

They don't just talk about what's just been vomited up on the popular bit torrent sites, they also talk about upcoming movies, games, software, news, whatever!. For instance there was an R5 released this week of the film Moscow Zero. An R5 is a new kind of DVD rip, an AVI taken direct from an actual commercial DVD. In Russia (region 5) there is rampant movie piracy so a lot of DVD's apparently get released there ahead of North America. Releaselog.net has a short synopsis, Links to on the film to things like the IMDB (Internet Movie Database), the movie's homepage, a preview trailer and lastly, a bittorent link to where you can download the thing. It links to http://www.newtorrents.info all the time, another site I hadn't gone too much. It's free with no ratios, kinda neat if you don't mind waiting.
Pretty handy.. If you're into dog shows or lesser TV fare you may have missed on air like Micheal Jackson's most shocking TV moments!!!!
I regularly use stuff like this if I happen to miss a TV program I like. Every episode of LOST, House, desperate Housewives, etc, is up there commercial free an hour after airing(in High Def too, stream to your TV, Xbox, or burn to DVD and watch it later).

Xbox Live rednecks

I signed up for Xbox live last week. I managed to hook it up with my neighbor who is on all the time (after figuring out the Xbox blade interface and remembering to throttle down my rabid bittorrenting of public domain nature documentaries) and it's pretty fun. You get a headset and VOX activated mic and when you link up with someone you can hear them and they can hear you as you play the same game. You can choose to hear them on your TV or in your headset or both. I chose both. After a few tests I told my neighbor that I was leaving the console and that I'd talk to him the next day.
He didn't disconnect and for the next 15 minutes I could listen to him swear at his TV while he played Gears of War while I read some Xbox Live forums on my PC. I'm positive he didn't know I could hear him. I got to thinking, hey, this could be a CSI episode. Some guy's playing an online game with a headset, he disconnects but can still hear the audio feed from the other guy's console and he accidentally overhears him committing murder or something.

I turned it off then, I have no time to go to court. Plus it was late and should his wife come down the stairs in lingerie then..

So a few days ago my neighbor wasn't on so I started a game and made it so anyone in the universe could join. I'm playing solo and then this guy pops on. Judging from his accent, he is obviously from the southern United States. We chat and kill Locusts (GOW bad guys) and after a few minutes I can hear that his wife/girlfriend/boss has entered the room. She starts yelling at him about something but I can only hear the conversation when he yells back because that's when the VOX microphone gets activated. Since she was speaking while he was interrupting I was able to comprehend that:

1. The trailer was a %$#&@*&?% mess (no stereotypes people!)
2. There was no more wine coolers

Hehehehe. He's yelling at her that he's "Trying to play a ?%$#@* game woman! GIT!" and that only seemed to piss her off more. I heard him twist the headset around in back of his head which just make the audio more choppy 'cause the mic was still activating.

After 2 minutes of this he said he had to go, "sorry bout that, my woman's *&$@# crazy..".

No probs man. Go buy some wine coolers and clean that trailer!

YEAH HAW!!!!!

Much better than Winchester Joe's swiming pool

This Saturday I headed up to my grandmother's place for a swim. She had a certificate for a couple of family swims at this private pool up near her way, in Winchester Springs (out in the country eh?). I had no idea what to expect, my oldest memory of swimming in Winchester was when I was about 8 and I was spending a few weeks of the summer up there with my cousins.

One day it was hot as hell and they asked me
"Hey do you want to go over to Joe's pool for a swim?"
Sure I did! Did I have the required 10 cents Joe charged for admission? Right here! So off we went to Joe's.
Joe's pool turned out to be a small above-ground in someones backyard. Joe was the son and he and his sister charged the neighborhood kids 10 cents a swim. The duration of said swim was variable. If they decided you were done, they'd kick you out and you'd have to pay again. I think it had something to do with how much fun you were having. If you just kinda sat there quiet in the water they'd forget about you(the dead man's float worked too). There were no safety regs, there'd be as many kids as could fit above and below the water.
I'll never forget the method of entry into Joe's pool. A rusty slide ripped off of the end of a swing set that had been placed so it's ladder was on the outside (of course) and the bottom of the slide was inside the pool. The feet were resting on a two by four on the pool bottom amid old patches that were evidence the rusty slide's metal footing had perforated the liner more than once. When you would try and slide down this thing (the first and only time) your bathing suit or cutoffs or fruit of the loom underwear (we were in the country eh?) would snag on the rust pitted surface and you'd get stuck momentarily before landing in the water amid rusty brown flecks of metal and pools of your own blood caused by the rusty lacerations you'd receive on the way down. Once in the pool you'd look up from underwater and have to find a spot to surface that wasn't covered in large green clumps of pod-like seaweed. On top of that, you'd have almost no time to do this because in the meantime. the next kid was making his rusty decent aiming for your back with his feet.

Ahh the country...

So with this in mind we were traveling on a dirt road wondering if Joe had gown up, moved the above-ground pool inside a barn with a wood stove, and was now charging 25 cents a pop for a bloody scrape down the rusty slide.

How wrong we were! I saw the mansion from about a kilometer away, it looked like the friggen Branch Davidian Wako complex the FBI set on fire in Texas way back when. It had an addition in the back that obviously had to be the indoor swimming pool. The water was as warm as a bathtub! It had a hardwood ceiling! Diving board! Woohoo!

Only $30 an hour for 15 people. It rocked! I didn't bring my camera otherwise I'd have a ton of pictures pasted on the blog. We're going again in a month, I'll take some photos then! It was a blast!

I am in the wrong business. I should have been a large scale dairy farmer!

Goalie Fight! Sens and Buffalo

Ray Emery rocks! I haven't seen a goalie fight in ages! Personly I think the Neil hit was fine. If someone wants to make a pass and admire it for a few seconds in the offensive zone then some guy just might finish his check on you. Keep your head up!

Check out the vicious cross checks on Spezza and the Heatley mugging on the next face off! I thought it was cheap for Peters to try and fight Emery after A) he just fought Biron and B) Emery's a goalie and is wearing three times the equiptment a skater does. Peters said he was coming to the defense of his goalie. Yeah, well Peter's goalie is the one who left his crease and skated over to Emery (because he wanted to get himself knocked out I guess).

Barrhaven Vandalism on Youtube

This is a neat idea. A Barrhaven homeowner has put up video of his house being vandalized by punk kids. It was in the paper today, I hope they catch the little scumbags. The kids pause in front of the house and then one of them runs up to the house and smashes a porch light. Apparently the house has been vandalised a few times now (not sure why it is being centered out, need more info on that) resulting in the video surveillance.

I didn't do it! It's some other Batman....

Someone emailed me about this story that caused a three school lockdown for 45 minutes in Arizona. It wasn't me. They can't prove anything, and since when is that illegal!

article below.. (thanks Hidnseek for the link)

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070214/D8N9OM481.html

Holy rope climber Batman!

An MIT graduate student made a Batman style rope climber capable of lifting 250 pounds (It'll work on me, woohoo!) 50 feet in the air in under 5 seconds. It's a 'reverse rappeller' that sucks the rope in one end pulling the person up. It weighs about 25 pounds. Pretty Neat-o!

Who couldn't use one of these! Check out their website! http://atlasdevices.com/ $1000 US a pop!

The Grindhouse - April 6th 2007

Two of my favorite directors, Quintin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, have teamed up to make two flicks together, in that 1970 celluloid style they are both fond of. Rodriguez's is a Zombie flick (hehehehe) called Planet Terror and Quintin's is a slasher flick called Death Proof. They are going to be run back to back and presented as Grindhouse. The website is one of the best I've seen for a movie. http://www.grindhousemovie.net/.

If you like films like Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Sin City, Kill Bill 1&2, Once upon a Time in Mexico, heck, even Spy Kids, this is a must see!

Check out the trailer!

Zombies galore! Dead Rising for Xbox 360

Haven't had time to post because I've been too busy killing digital zombies (man, that would be a good handle or name for a web site, Digital Zombies!) in Capcom's Dead Rising. You play photojournalist Frank West who helicopters in to a military cordoned off town somewhere in the middle of Nowhere USA on a tip that there's something weird going on. I'll say, the town is full of frickin Zombies! This has got to be one of the most inventive games I have ever played. It's kind of like Grand Theft Auto with Zombies(and less driving). One cool thing is that you've got this digital camera so you're always able to take pictures of the stuff you see around you (you get points for this). The game has a great into where you're taking pics from the Helicopters and you come across some major disturbing happenings, people getting dragged out of their cars, alone on rooftops surrounded by Zombies, Gas stations blowing up etc.. It really sets the scene for when you get dropped off on the roof of a mall in the center of town.

The Mall is the only thing the town's got going for it so it makes sense that the zombies are concentrated there. The opening Act has you holed up in a maintenance room with two Homeland Security Agents that are tight lipped about the whole affair, but they obviously know more and are unwilling to share this information with you. It's up to you to find out what's going on, starting with the cranky old man holed up in the book store who they call "The Professor". Agent Jessie looks like she had a previous career as a professional wrestling manager and/or pole dancer.

One of the sidelines of the game is finding normal (not-yet-zombified) people in the mall and rescuing them by bringing them back to the security control room. Said room has all the security feeds in the mall so they are always calling you on your walkie talking to tell you about new people they see holed up in this store or that.

Speaking of stores, you can walk in into any one of them and start picking stuff off the shelves to smack zombies with. Personally I like baseball bats, although Fender Stratocaster guitars are fun, and the Battle Axe in the antique store makes short work of your new zombie Friends. Half the fun is just seeing what each thing does to the Zombies. Like that lawn mower in the Mall's central park area. Yup.. You can mow down zombies! About 50 of them before it breaks. Golf clubs are fun, you can tee golf balls off down the hallways into the zombies and perforate them until they stop lurching towards you.

One of the great things about the game, that fully immerses you is you play it for a few hours and you start to think "What would I do if I were in a mall stuffed with zombies?" Find the GUN SHOP of course (this is set in the good old US of A, right to bear arms, all that crap)! Problem is, the gun shops is owned by a good 'ole boy by the name 'o Cletus, who has gone a bit coo coo in a survivalist kinda way, and he doesn't take to kindly to no good Yankee's trying to take guns from his store. He doesn't care that you aren't a zombie, he doesn't like anybody really. To get at the booty of guns in his shop, you get to go through him. And he's HARD to take on! Once you do though, you have access to all the Sniper rifles and shotguns you want, if you can stomach running the packed hallway gauntlet of zombies in that area of the mall.
And speaking of psychopaths, we have to give honorable mention to Alex the psycho chainsaw juggling clown and the guy at the grocery store with the pitchforks sticking out of his shopping cart. These are all non-zombified folks who have gone, 'just a little bit crazy' in light of the zombie times we find ourselves in.

At night, the park in the middle of the mall suddenly has this 4x4 jeep with a 50 Cal machine gun mounted in the back, driven by 3 escaped convicts who are zombie hunting. They will go out of their way to get frank and any normals though, this is anarchy after all. If you can manage to take them out, you can have great fun driving the jeep through a sea of zombies and the 50 cal gun in the back can be taken off and carried into the mall for all sorts of mischief.

Hands down the best Xbox 360 game I have played so far..

Mmmm BRAINS!!!! Here is a video trailer, kinda violent though (like the game) but you get what I'm talking about. This ain't for kids.

The Stolen Geosquid plate makes an appearance on the net.

Ok, I took this pic about two years ago. Why is that important now? Cause it's one of two pictures on the Internet featuring the GEOSQUID license plate. Mine's the one not posted by a stupid person(although a few of you might disagree).

A year and a half ago someone nicked Geosquid's ultra cool custom license plate, which read of course, his
geocaching moniker: "geosquid". I remember when it got stolen because he sent an email to a local geocaching list about it at the time. A few months before I had seen it for the first time at a geocaching event and thought, "Hey that is Cool!" (That's Tripper lying on the ground pretending to be a hit and run victim, not that I was trying to get anyone in trouble or anything)

Now what kinda freaks would steal a guy's license plate? Especially one that memorable ? Well, stupid people that's who. (One of them's a cute stupid person, but still..uhh, not bright)..

So I cracked my morning paper open this Sunday, and there on page three, is Geosquid, in his Nissan, with his GEOSQUID plate. I had heard he got a new one, that it had cost $100, but why is he in the paper? As his blog would also state, he was checking out his blog's hit stats and followed a track-back to a search engine, that pointed back to some blog, which had a picture from the time of the theft of three 19-20 somethings holding his license plate with a stupid caption like, "Duh, dis is some plate we done stole.. hehehehe".. It was some Carleton U scavenger hunt (Carleton U, where the K stands for quality!)

Well that's cool! Newsworthy too! A pseudo geocaching story, woohoo!

You don't see the pic hoster in the photo, I guess since she posted it, she was taking it, which is too bad because she's right cute(see profile pic below)! Still, we're talking $100 bucks here, and lost time, and at least one police pull-over once he got the plate replaced and it was still showing as stolen.

What's a geocacher to do?

The story generated a ton of traffic to Geosquid's blog, and the suspect's blog(which has shut-down, gee-I-didn't-see that-coming-not-for-one-minute, Oops, too bad I kinda archived it first). I'll agree it's a cool plate. I liked it the first time I saw it but at least I didn't grab a screwdriver and pry it off the front of the car while my Friends snapped pictures!

Moral of the story. Don't steal a geocacher's license plate (even if you're cute!) He'll most likely know where to find you if you're stupid enough to post a pic online. God that made me laugh. I'm laughing now. I guess it's hard to know the guy you're stealing the plate from is a computer security professional. Luck of the draw I guess.

Hehehehehe.

Read about it at Geosquid's blog.

P.S. Hey, I just checked and GS copied her blog to a PDF before it got taken down, check it out!. Not bad, good reading!
P.S.S Ack, she took her profile pic down, I had to go use the waybackmachine to get it. Man, don't people know that once you put something on the net, it's forever!

Iguana suffers ereptile dysfunction

BRUSSELS -- Mozart, an iguana stuck with a permanent erection six days after a mating session at a zoo, may have to have his penis amputated if the condition does not improve.
Even if an amputation is deemed necessary, Mozart will still be able to reproduce because male iguanas have two penises, noted Enid Balemans, of the Aquatopia Zoo in Antwerp.
She said Mozart was not showing obvious signs of distress, but added: "I imagine that if you are a man and you look at Mozart, it hurts."

The R2-D2 DVD Projector

Screw the batmobile. What I need is this thing. The R2D2 DVD projector. It's a bit undersized, but hey!

I've always wanted a damned full size R2D2, and one day I'll have onel!!!! Heck, I may build one (people who know me will actually take my word that I'm serious about that statement and it will cause them great fits of laughter, but hey, we're talking your very own DROID here! There are tons of freaks like me on the net with scematics and detailed draft drawings of plans, and advice on the best washing machine motors to use for the wheel system! I own a copy of the robot builder's handbook people!!!)

So this thing... It throws your DVD up on a wall, plays your Ipod tunes and a couple of other cool things! Only $2000! Plus you can drive it around your living room! They make a smaller version with a Skype phone hookup and webcam, so you can call it and move it around your house to see what's going on when you're not there. I can think of all kinds of trouble you can get into with this thing. Deleted scenes from American Pie come to mind. Check out this live footage!

I need $150,000!

One of the old Batmobile's is up for auction! (thanks for the tip Tripper!)

On another note, did you know there is a whole fan site dedicated to the original 1966 car? Freaky! I saw one of them at an Ottawa car shows when I was 11. R2D2 was there too, but he was all (*&^(^&^ up. His front console was basically 4 blinking traffic lights, not at all like the original.

The Xbox 360 and Gears of War

I got a line on an X-box 360 the other day. A guy was selling it at cost more or less(there was a boxing week sale last month and many people bought them at $150 off and sold them for retail price without tax, Doh! I hate boxing day!), but he was selling it at 5:00pm on Monday to the first person who showed up at his door with the cash(first come first served). That has to be me I thought.. But my wife started a new job that same day, so there's no way she can come home early on her first day and pick up the kids. So.. I brought the little tykes with me! I loaded the car up with snacks and drove all the way out to the West end to wait for this guy in his driveway. He was late! But I got my X-box 360!!!

I didn't even get out of the car. Just handed him the money out of the window, and popped the box open inside the car to make sure it wasn't full of something non-X-boxish. It came with two game titles, headphones, wireless controller. It's real cool, but I went and got the game I've been hearing so much about. Gears of War.

This game scored a 9.6 at Gamespot, and that's a rare thing. It's all well deserved. When you play this game, sometimes it's like your a crazy CNN camera-guy in Iraq running crouched down in a war zone trying to to get perforated. 5th gen game systems are very impressive indeed. The graphics are ....well. That still you see up on the top. The guy looks like that all the time... With this thing, gone are the days when the cinematic cut scenes look great but the in-game code that chucks polygon around would suck.. They are the same now - and they both don't suck!

Check it out if you get the chance. Take a peek at this game footage I found on Youtube!

Fun with the Ipod wearing only your underwear and a cheetah bathrobe

The other day I tried to load up some songs on my 30GB Ipod, and it said it was FULL. Again... Damn Itunes software doesn't show how much room your checked songs take up (checked songs are the ones that get transferred in my case). So I do what I always do. I delete a pile, hoping to get it under the wire. So Paul McCartney was the first to go. Then some Mozart. Finally some old guitar instructional video audio I had listened too already. Still full? Goodbye Civil War lectures from TTC.
Still Full!! Ok, something was up. I decided it was time to format this sucker and reset. It was 12:30am.. I had work(ok, french class )the next day. This was not a good idea.
at 1:00am the Ipod told me the format and reset was almost done, but it wanted to be plugged into a wall socket when it flipped the firmware around.

Wall socket plug? I haven't seen that thing for two years! I recharge it in my car and on my PC! You gotta be kidding! But there it was, a little graphic on the front LCD of a wall socket and a Little flashing arrow. A search for the wall charger was fruitless, but then I thought, maybe I can trick it into thinking my Monster car charger/FM transmitter is a wall socket. Time to go outside.

Clad only in my FOTL's I grabbed my wife's over sized bathrobe from a pile of laundry near the stairs. It fit! Outside I went, into the car (it was slightly freezing but no snow) and lo and behold, it started to load the new firmware... WOOHOO! But as I was sitting there in the car at 1:12am shivering in my wife's Cheetah bathrobe, the next door neighbor's porch light went on.. And he stepped outside.

I do believe he thought I was a no-gooder stealing my piece of crap 1993 Honda crap-bucket.. But alas, it was just me.. I waved, and he pretended to look in his mailbox and went back in very quickly (we have communal super mailboxes. Maybe he was expecting an important flyer like that Quiznos one that I got last week, yum!).

The update finished, and back in the warm house I went. I have to learn not to start stuff like this after midnight. It always seems to take hours!

I did find a cool way to see the size of the 'checked' files in itunes though. I made a smart playlist, and there was an option to include everything, with a "checked files only" option. And when you give this playlist it's own window, it adds up all the disk space. 27.85GB just about fits..

Ok.. I can go back to liking I-tunes again..

Sea Monkeys! They're real! (sorta)

Auntie Louise gave my kids one of these Sea Monkey kits for Christmas. I think I was more excited then my 6 year old was. I hearken back to the mid-70's when I started to read comic books and I recall seeing full page ads for these little frickin' guys all the time. They always showed a family and in the background was a little undersea kingdom and all that. The head SeaMonkey was always holding a trident to overcompensate for the fact that he had no genitalia.

So my kid is a bit disappointed that a bunch of hairy aquatic undersea monkeys didn't hatch out of the freeze-dried container, and start building a crystal city underwater.. But they are still cool! They look like the Aliens from The Abyss. Pretty freaky that they can live in a packet of dust for 2 or 3 years and just pop out when you add water. If there's ever a total nuclear war, Sea Monkeys will inherit the earth!! (along with cockroaches.

To the left here is a little animated GIF of an actual Sea Monkey. Cool eh?

There is a neat disclaimer on the package. If you manage to somehow kill them all, if you drain the water out and wait 5 days, then add water again. The hatching's come back to life.. Mother Nature can be freaky sometimes!

Paul Bernardo - why don't we encourage suicide

I was talking to someone about Paul Bernardo (that waste of oxygen) the other day and it occurred to me that they have a few particular prison policies that I simply don't understand.

#1 Most Prisoners aren't permitted to have shoelaces to prevent them from "trying to hang themselves".

Hello? If the person is a convicted murderer with video evidence that he kidnapped and raped women whose body parts turn up later in a lake encased in several different pieces of concrete, then the guy should be encouraged to kill himself.

Save us some money... Paul there, as you can see in the photo appears to sit there and watch TV for the better part of the day.

If I was a prison guard, I'd be walking by his cage every day saying to him "Hey Paul, I got an idea. Why don't you ^%$#*&^ kill yourself today?"

I say give him as many shoelaces as he wants... What's he gonna do, make a rope and escape? Garrote a guard? Him AND his ex-wife (who is just a big a psycho as he is) should not be using up our oxygen.

And Policy #2 Convicted rapists/murderers and or pedophiles are not housed in general prison population.

Screw that! He needs a big roommate named Phil who will strangle him in his sleep or kill him in the shower with a spoon.

Just my two cents...

School House Rock

The other day I was digging through my DVD collection trying to find something for the kids to watch while we were home over the holidays (besides Lord of the Rings or something equally inappropriate for a 6 and 2 year old - don't laugh, I know a guy who's pre-schooler took Hannible and LOTR to grandma's to watch one day while Dad wasn't paying attention) and I looked way in the back of the TV shelving unit and came across my School House Rock DVD. Wikipedia says that SHR is often viewed with nostaligia by generation X'ers. NO SHIT!!!! I swear all of this content got me through all phases of schooling, AND put me onto music and melodic hookery in a big way. In listening to some of my favorites like "The great american Melting pot", "Naughty Number Nine" "Ready or Not Here I come", "Sufferin' Til Suffrage", "Interplanet Janet", etc... I quickly realized that sometime in the 80's I re-digested some of these songs into licks and riffs and re-used them in songs I wrote with my freinds in various garage bands and the like(grin).

It's hillarious where your subconcious inspiration comes from. That and that really cool song from Seasame Street with the pinball bouncing all over the place with the hot jazz sax breaks.

Combining grammer and science and multiplication with music was a great idea. They should air all of this stuff again. The animation was excellent as well!

Everyone remember?
